Naturopathy or Naturopathic Medicine treats many health conditions by utilising the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. It incorporates nutritional medicine, such as vitamin and mineral therapy, herbal medicine, dietary analysis and advice, iridology, massage, flower essences. The role of a Naturopath is to holistically encourage the healing process with the aid of natural, non-toxic therapies, allowing you to restore balance, gain control of your health and feel vital and energised.
At an initial consultation a thorough health and well being history is discussed taking into account present and past symptoms, medical history, family history, environmental factors, lifestyle and psychological factors. Testing may be advised to dig deeper into your levels of health and to take the guess work out of treatment.
You do not need to be unwell to benefit from naturopathy. Naturopathic treatments boost the body’s natural healing potential, restoring harmony and preventing disease. Incorporating Kinesiology into treatment helps to keep the mind and emotions in balance which is important when working with wholistic healing.
Modern naturopathy is founded on six basic principles
-
Nature has the power to heal – It is the Naturopath’s role to support the self-healing process by removing obstacles to health.
-
Treat the whole person – Disease rarely has a single cause, so every aspect of the patient must be brought into harmonious balance.
-
First, do no harm – A Naturopath should utilise methods and substances that are as nontoxic and noninvasive as possible
-
Identify and treat the causes – Rather than suppress symptoms, the Naturopath should treat the underlying cause of the disease
-
Prevention is as important as cure – A naturopath should help create health, as well as cure disease.
-
Doctors should be teachers – “Doctor” originally meant “teacher”. Part of the Naturopath’s task is to educate the patient and encourage self-responsibility.
