What goes into a great well-being eating plan? There are 6 simple principles that qualified nutritionists follow to ensure you are getting all of your daily requirements of both energy to keep you going and nutrients to feed your cells and keep them healthy.
Principle 1. Adequacy
Providing enough energy and nutrients through food to supply what is needed by the body and replenish what is lost through daily activity.
Principle 2. Balance
Providing enough varieties of foods to ensure all nutrient and energy requirements are met. Balancing all of the different food groups to ensure a good supply of vitamins, minerals and those lovely colourful phytonutrients.
Principle 3. Energy Control
Ensuring that the energy supplied by the diet balances with the energy used by the body so that too much energy is not consumed resulting in fat storage.
Principle 4. Nutrient density
Selecting the most nutrient dense foods that have the least energy (kilojoules).
Principle 5. Moderation
Making sure the diet is full of well balanced wholefoods and choosing to eat foods high in sugar or saturated fats only occasionally.
Principle 6. Variety
Varying food choices within the five food groups to utilise the different nutrients and also to keep the diet interesting.
